Medicaid and CHIP guidance on postpartum pelvic care

If enacted, HHS would, within one year, issue guidance to states on Medicaid and CHIP coverage for pelvic health care during pregnancy and after birth. It would share payment best practices, financing options (including CHIP Health Services Initiatives), and suggested diagnosis codes to identify pelvic floor problems. States would get technical help on screening, referrals, and access. Postpartum would mean the longer of breastfeeding or six months after the last day of pregnancy. This could make it easier to get pelvic floor exams and pelvic health physical therapy.

Postpartum pelvic health education campaign

If enacted, CDC, with HRSA and others, would run a program to teach clinicians about pelvic floor exams and pelvic health physical therapy. It would teach postpartum women why exams matter, what to expect, and how to get referrals and therapy. The bill would define what counts as an exam and as therapy. Congress would authorize $2 million each year for 2026 through 2030 for this program.
