Expanding Access to Lending Options Act
Sponsored By: Representative Fitzgerald
Introduced
Summary
Lets federal credit unions offer longer loans. The Expanding Access to Lending Options Act would let the National Credit Union Administration Board raise the maximum maturity for certain federal credit union loans from 15 years to 20 years or longer by regulation and would remove the rule that tied that loan category to a member's principal residence. The bill also says NCUA should place safety and soundness at the center of any changes, so the agency would set guardrails when extending loan terms.

Longer loans at federal credit unions
If enacted, federal credit unions could offer loans with terms up to 20 years. The National Credit Union Administration Board could allow even longer terms by rule. The bill would also remove a phrase that tied some loans to a member’s main home. This could open options for other property types and could lower monthly payments for some borrowers.
