320th Barrage Balloon Battalion Gold Medal Act
Sponsored By: Representative Veasey, Marc A. [D-TX-33]
Introduced
Summary
Awards a single Congressional Gold Medal to the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion for extraordinary heroism during the D‑Day invasion. The bill would direct the Secretary of the Treasury, after consulting the Secretary of Defense, to strike the medal and ask the Speaker of the House and the President pro tempore to arrange its presentation on behalf of Congress. The medal would be given to the Smithsonian for display and research, with a sense of Congress that it be shown at locations tied to D‑Day, World War II, and African‑American servicemembers. The Secretary may strike and sell bronze duplicates to cover costs and deposit proceeds into the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund.
