Summary
Counting reserve service as qualifying payments for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. This bill would let members of the reserve components get months of covered service counted toward PSLF when they made corresponding Federal Direct Loan payments or those payments would have qualified if they had full-time public service employment.

- Reserve members: For a full year of covered service, each month may count as a qualifying PSLF payment if the member made a matching Federal Direct Loan payment. For a partial year, up to 6 months may count.
- Borrowers pursuing PSLF: More months of reserve service could be added toward the 120 qualifying payments needed for loan forgiveness when payments meet or would have met PSLF rules.
- Federal agencies: The Secretaries of Defense and Education would have to implement a data match within one year of enactment and run it annually to certify covered service years and qualifying payments without extra paperwork from the individual.

Count reserve service toward loan forgiveness
If enacted, Guard and Reserve members with Federal Direct Loans could get more months counted toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness. For each full covered year (80+ retirement points), up to 12 months could count; for each partial year (50–79 points), up to 6 months. Only months when you made a matching monthly payment on your Direct Loan would count, and the payment must meet PSLF rules or would have if you had been working full-time in public service. The Defense and Education departments would match records within one year of enactment and each year after to certify your covered years and qualifying payments. They would do this without extra forms from you.
