More housing for homeless people with pets
If enacted, this bill would fund competitive grants to create or convert housing that accepts homeless people and families with pets. Money could pay to buy, fix, or build sites, cover pet-related operating costs, and train staff in basic pet care. Housing would need to offer on-site supportive services and basic vet care for pets; off-site services would be allowed only if transport is provided. Local governments, nonprofits, and housing providers could apply; animal shelters could partner but could not apply alone. It would authorize $5 million each year from 2026 through 2030, subject to future appropriations.
