HR5282119th Congress

Reauthorizing Support and Treatment for Officers in Crisis Act of 2025

Sponsored By: Representative Reschenthaler

Introduced

Summary

Reauthorizes grant funding for support and treatment programs for law enforcement officers and families through 2029. This bill would amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 by changing the authorization period in 34 U.S.C. 10261(a)(21) from "2020 through 2024" to "2025 through 2029", extending the grant program's authorization window. The reauthorization continues the program's existing statutory authority and preserves the program's current structure and terms as presented in the bill text.

Extend officer support grants to 2029

This bill would extend the legal authority for an existing grant program that supports law enforcement officers and families. The authorization would run from 2025 through 2029. Agencies could keep applying for the same grants. It would not add funding by itself or change who can get grants. The change would take effect upon enactment.
