Indexes the Social Security lump-sum death payment to inflation and raises the base amount. The bill would set the lump-sum death payment at $2,900 and, for individuals who die on or after January 1, 2025, increase that amount in calendar years after 2025 by the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) measured from October 2024 to the October before the year of death, with increases rounded to the nearest $10 and the payment for 2025 remaining $2,900.
