Full federal pay for Medicaid vaccine rides
If enacted, nonemergency rides for eligible vaccines for Medicaid enrollees would be reimbursed by the federal government at 100 percent for trips on or after enactment. The rule would apply only to nonemergency transportation costs tied to eligible vaccines under State Medicaid plans. This would mean states would not owe a share of those qualifying vaccine trip costs.
Grants for rides to vaccine appointments
If enacted, HHS would award grants to qualified community organizations to pay for transportation to eligible vaccine sites in low-income, minority, or other communities facing transportation barriers. Grants would fund prescheduled or on-demand rides and first-and-last-mile trips. Applicants would identify partners and performance measures, grants must last at least six months, and grantees would report within six months after the grant ends. Congress would need to appropriate money for the program.
