To provide for the designation of Burma for temporary protected status.
Sponsored By: Representative Huizenga, Bill [R-MI-4]
Introduced
Summary
Designates Burma for Temporary Protected Status (TPS). This bill would designate Burma (Myanmar) for TPS under section 244 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and treat the designation as if made under INA subsection (b)(1)(C). The initial designation period would be 18 months beginning November 25, 2025. Burmese nationals would be eligible if they have been continuously physically present in the United States since enactment, are admissible as immigrants under the cited rules, and register for TPS as the Department of Homeland Security requires. The Secretary of Homeland Security would have to grant prior consent for brief emergency travel abroad under existing TPS rules, and individuals returning under that authorization would receive the same reentry treatment as other TPS beneficiaries.

Temporary Protected Status for Burma nationals
If enacted, this bill would designate Burma for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for an 18-month period starting on November 25, 2025. You would be eligible for TPS if you are a national of Burma who has been continuously physically present in the United States since the date the bill is enacted, are admissible as an immigrant (with certain narrow exceptions), are not otherwise ineligible under TPS rules, and you register for TPS as the Department of Homeland Security directs. The Department of Homeland Security would have to grant prior consent for brief emergency travel abroad when beneficiaries show emergency and extenuating circumstances, and a beneficiary returning with that consent would be treated the same as other TPS returnees.
