Show full summary
- Voters reassigned to a different polling place would have to be notified at least 7 days before the election by mail, telephone, and, if available, text message and email. If the reassignment happens fewer than 7 days before the election and a voter shows up at the old site, officials must make every reasonable effort to let them cast a ballot.
- In jurisdictions that use vote centers instead of assigned precincts, each eligible voter would be notified of all polling locations not later than 2 days before the start of early voting.
- If a former polling place will not serve in the next federal election, states must post signs at that location, publish the substitute polling places and directions online and on social media, and provide contact information. These notices must comply with the language-access rules in section 203 of the Voting Rights Act.

When your polling place changes
This bill would require states to notify voters when their assigned polling place for a federal election changes. If you are moved from the polling place used in the most recent federal election, the state would notify you no later than 7 days before the election by mail and telephone, and by text message and email if available. States would also post general notices on their website, on social media if available, and put signs at the prior polling place. In jurisdictions using vote centers, officials would notify each eligible voter of all polling locations not later than 2 days before early voting starts. If a former polling place will not serve in the next federal election, states would post signs on election day and during any early voting period with the new location, substitute polling place name and address, directions, and contact information, and would post that information online. All notices would need to comply with Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act. These rules would apply to elections held on or after January 1, 2026.
