Stricter Lifeline eligibility rules
You would need to be a U.S. citizen or a qualified alien to get Lifeline. You would also have to give your Social Security number or a Tribal identifier when you apply. The FCC would have 120 days after enactment to require the national Eligibility Verifier and Accountability Database for all eligibility checks and ban state opt-outs. Within 180 days after enactment, anyone whose eligibility was originally decided without those systems would be rechecked using them. If the recheck finds you ineligible, you would lose Lifeline. This would cause some low-income households to lose a small monthly phone or internet subsidy.
