Introduced

Summary

This bill would designate the bandstand at the Christiansted National Historic Site in St. Croix as the Peter G. Thurland, Sr., Bandstand. It cites Peter G. Thurland Sr.'s life: born in Christiansted in 1892, a skilled trombonist and baritone horn player who joined the U.S. Navy in 1917 and performed with the Navy Band. He helped design and construct the Christiansted bandstand, founded the St. Croix Community Band in 1938, led free monthly concerts and trained young musicians until retiring in 1968. The bill also directs that any U.S. law, map, or document referring to that bandstand use the new name.
