Science and technology training for diplomats
This bill would require the Secretary of State, through the George P. Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center, to create and run STEM training for Foreign Service officers. The training would cover artificial intelligence, next-generation communications, regional technology advances, how technology affects diplomacy, using STEM as a diplomacy tool, and how adversaries use technology as described in the most recent National Security Strategy. A condensed curriculum would also be created and the training would be added to the A-100 course. Officers who already finished A-100 on the date of enactment would have to finish the full training within 18 months or the condensed training within 270 days. The training would be additional to and separate from other required Foreign Service trainings.
