Congress must approve Dietary Guidelines
If enacted, the bill would require the Secretary of Agriculture and the Secretary of Health and Human Services to submit proposed Dietary Guidelines to Congress instead of publishing them. The Secretaries could finalize Guidelines only if Congress approves them by law. The bill would lock the "Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030, 10th edition," issued January 7, 2026, so it could not be changed except through the new congressional process. Federal programs that use the Guidelines, like school meals, SNAP, and WIC, would be affected and households could see updates delayed or blocked.
