Sponsored By: Representative Yakym, Rudy [R-IN-2]

Introduced

Summary

Counts recreational vehicles and towable campers as 'qualified passenger vehicles' for the vehicle-interest deduction. This bill would redefine "qualified passenger vehicle" so certain RVs, trailers, campers and common motor vehicles meet the tax test for interest on purchase loans.

Show full summary
  • Buyers of recreational vehicles, campers, and towable trailers: If a vehicle is designed to provide temporary living quarters and is a motor vehicle or is meant to be towed or affixed to a motor vehicle, loans to acquire it would qualify for the vehicle-interest deduction. This applies to indebtedness incurred after December 31, 2025.
  • Buyers of cars, minivans, vans, sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks, and motorcycles: These vehicles qualify if they are treated as motor vehicles under Title II of the Clean Air Act and have a gross vehicle weight rating under 14,000 pounds, making loans to purchase them eligible for the same interest deduction.
