This bill would create a 12-member Task Force on women in law enforcement. The Attorney General would appoint members to study State hiring standards and write national hiring, retention, and promotion recommendations that do not disadvantage applicants based on sex. The Task Force would report its findings and recommendations to Congress within 18 months of enactment. In the fiscal year after the report, a State that adopts the recommendations would receive an extra amount equal to 5 percent of its Edward Byrne JAG award, usable for the same JAG purposes. The Attorney General would also be able to provide technical assistance to help States and local agencies adopt the recommendations, and the bill would authorize whatever money is needed each year to pay for the extra grants and technical help.
