Higher prison terms for major fraud

This bill would add mandatory minimum penalties for many federal fraud and false-statement crimes. It would apply to offenses listed in 18 U.S.C. sections 1001, 1002, 1003, 1010, 1012, 1031, 1035, 1040, 1341, 1343, 1345, and 1347. If the crime involved $1,000,000 to under $5,000,000, the sentence would be a federal fine and 1 to 10 years in prison. If the crime involved $5,000,000 or more, the sentence would be a federal fine and 5 to 20 years in prison. The bill would say these minimums apply notwithstanding other rules, but a different law's longer prison term would still control.
