Public maps of sinkhole risk
If enacted, USGS would create a program to spot sinkhole hazards and study causes like storms, droughts, and aquifer loss. It would map areas at higher risk using 3D elevation data. The maps would be posted on a public website for planners, emergency managers, and property owners. USGS would review the maps at least once every five years and update as needed. The program would start only if Congress provides funding.
