Study of separated service members' benefits
This bill would require the Secretary of Defense to study service members separated for refusing a COVID-19 vaccine between August 24, 2021 and January 10, 2023. The report would be sent to the House and Senate Armed Services Committees within 180 days and posted publicly online within 60 days after submission. The study would count covered individuals and covered dependents and report who initiated transfers of education benefits, who completed required service, who were denied religious exemptions, and who later returned under Executive Order 14184. The report would break results down by service branch, active or reserve status, grade, years of service at separation, and discharge characterization, and would include a budget analysis and recommendations on allowing covered dependents to begin transferred education benefits even if the service member did not finish required service.
