Summary
Help military medics move into civilian health care jobs. This bill would require Defense and Homeland Security to identify credential, licensing, and training barriers for military medics and would establish a DoD pilot grant program to place and credential separating service members in civilian health occupations.

Grants to hire separating service members
If you are separating from the military, nonprofit clinics in underserved areas would be able to get grants to hire and train you. The Department of Defense would be authorized $5,000,000 each year for fiscal years 2027 through 2031 to run a three-year pilot. Grants would last three years and would be renewable for up to two extra one-year periods while funds remain. A recipient would be limited to $600,000 for the initial three-year period and $200,000 for any additional year. DoD would have to ensure rural providers are included and report to Congress starting two years after enactment and then annually.
Help military medics get civilian jobs
The bill would require the Secretary concerned to work with States, the VA, HHS, and Labor to make recommendations and a plan to help military medics move into civilian health jobs. The review would identify barriers such as translating military credentials to civilian licenses, standardizing medic credentials, earning civilian equivalents before separation, bridge program availability, and SkillBridge participation limits. The Secretary would send the recommendations and an implementation plan to Congress within 180 days after enactment.
