Southeastern Rail Technologies Mapping Act of 2026
Sponsored By: Representative Beyer, Donald S. [D-VA-8]
Introduced
Summary
A federal study to map where electrification and other advanced power systems could modernize the Southeast rail corridor. This bill would require the Federal Railroad Administration, through its Office of Research, Data, and Innovation, to study rail performance and the feasibility of rail electrification, fuel cells, or battery power along corridors between Florida and Washington, D.C. For any segment found unsuitable, the study would explain why and recommend specific upgrades and provide an estimated cost for each. The Administrator would submit a report to Congress within 18 months of enactment.
