Ban on NDAs in Military Housing
This bill would prohibit a landlord from asking a tenant, former tenant, or prospective tenant to sign a nondisclosure agreement. The ban would include requests tied to services related to the housing unit. The rule would cover all Department of Defense housing, including accompanied family housing and unaccompanied military housing. The bill would define "tenant" to mean any party other than a landlord on a lease for a housing unit.
More protection against retaliation for tenants
This bill would expand reprisal protections tied to a housing unit and name more people and offices as covered targets. It would add landlords, a tenant's chain of command, the housing management office, the DoD Chief Housing Officer, inspectors general, and Members of Congress to the reprisal list when those people are made aware of housing reports. The Inspector General would have to notify the affected military department Secretary and the Armed Services committees within 10 business days after getting a reprisal report. The bill would also require notice of determinations to the Secretary and change final-action language so the Secretary tells the Inspector General when final steps are taken.
