Housing vouchers for grad students
If enacted, HUD would set up a tenant-based voucher program within one year. Covered graduate students who are selected would get a voucher that pays 80% of the fair market rent for the unit they choose. You would need to apply to HUD and meet the covered graduate student rules. HUD would decide how to select who gets vouchers.
Income caps for graduate students
If enacted, a "covered graduate student" would be someone in a graduate or professional program who meets set income caps. Dependent students would qualify if one parent's adjusted available income is $40,000 or less, or if two parents' combined adjusted available income is $80,000 or less. Independent students would qualify if a single student's available income is $40,000 or less or a married student's shared available income is $80,000 or less. The Secretary could adjust these dollar amounts for cost-of-living changes.
