Introduced

Summary

Higher Medicare payments for ambulance rides

This bill would change how Medicare pays for ground and air ambulance rides. It would reset payment amounts for services in 2028 to reflect providers' recent costs, including labor and uncompensated care. Starting in 2029, payments would be updated either by a three-year, data-based recalculation (first in 2031) or, in other years, by the annual CPI-U change ending in June. The HHS Secretary would use No Surprises Act data when available, expand air ambulance reporting, publish the basis for adjustments, meet experts by Dec 31, 2028, and send recommendations by July 1, 2029. The bill would not change Medicare benefits or beneficiary cost-sharing.
