Passed House

Summary

Speeds House floor action by setting rules to consider four specific bills and by adopting committee-recommended substitutes. It treats each committee’s amendment in the nature of a substitute as adopted, waives points of order against consideration and against provisions in the bills, and limits further debate to one hour split between committee leaders. The rule also allows one motion to recommit and extends debate time for motions to suspend the rules related to the proposed balanced budget amendment.

House sets debate on immigration crime bills

This adopted rule lets the House consider H.R. 1958 and H.R. 4638. These bills address who is inadmissible or deportable (who can enter or stay in the U.S.) for convictions that include defrauding the U.S. government, unlawful receipt of public benefits, or harming law-enforcement animals. The rule deems the Judiciary Committee substitutes adopted, with an added Rules Committee change to H.R. 4638, and treats the text as read. It waives points of order, allows one hour of debate, and permits one motion to recommit on each bill.
