It would designate April 2026 as "Distracted Driving Awareness Month" to promote actions that reduce deaths and injuries from visual, manual, and cognitive distraction. The resolution cites that over 3,000 people die and over 300,000 are injured each year in crashes involving distracted drivers. It notes reading a text takes eyes off the road for about 5 seconds, texting can raise crash risk up to 23 times, and hands-free tech does not remove cognitive distraction. It encourages public campaigns, State hands-free and anti-texting laws, high-visibility enforcement, and simple steps like putting phones away or enabling Do Not Disturb to make roads safer.
