Summary
Blocks institutions that employ unauthorized aliens from receiving federal student aid and makes E-Verify mandatory for Title IV eligibility. This bill would add a new condition to the Higher Education Act and create a regular DHS monitoring and notification role to enforce it.

- Students and families: Students at colleges found to employ unauthorized workers could lose access to federal student loans and grants if their institution becomes ineligible for Title IV programs.
- Colleges and staff: Institutions would need to participate in the E-Verify Program to keep federal student assistance and could lose funds if they violate INA section 274A.
- Federal agencies: The Department of Homeland Security would check E-Verify participation every 6 months and must notify the Education Secretary within 10 days of a violation or nonparticipation.

Colleges required to use E-Verify
If enacted, this bill would require colleges to participate in the E-Verify program to be eligible for Title IV federal student aid. The Department of Homeland Security would check every six months whether a college is using E-Verify. DHS would have to notify the Education Secretary within 10 days if a college is not using E-Verify or is found violating INA section 274A. A college found in violation could lose eligibility for Title IV federal student aid, including federal loans and grants. If your school lost Title IV funding, you could lose federal loans or grants and face higher costs or drop out. This would take effect upon enactment.
