Sponsored By: Senator Grassley, Chuck [R-IA]
Introduced
Summary
Better data and reporting on violence and officer mental health. This bill would require multiple detailed reports to map attacks on officers, gaps in crime reporting, and officers' mental health needs so policymakers can target training, protection, and support.

- Law enforcement officers: Agencies would get analyses of training effectiveness for ambush and violent attacks, the Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership's reach, and detailed looks at mental health resources and use. These findings aim to identify where officers lack protection or support.
- State, local, Tribal, and Federal agencies: The bill would direct agencies to help produce four reports within 270 days that examine adding new categories to crime databases, improving data collection, and combining existing officer-involved shooting records. Agencies would be asked about data gaps and barriers to sharing information.
- Policymakers and researchers: The reports would deliver recommendations on improving responses to ambushes, options to expand data fields in the Uniform Crime Reporting and National Incident-Based Reporting systems, and potential legislative or program tools to deter attacks and boost wellness programs.
