More compensation for crime victims
If enacted, the bill would expand state victim compensation programs. Victims and survivors could get medical bills, mental health care, lost wages from physical injury, and funeral costs. Angel families could also get medical and mental health care, wage loss for emotional distress, and funeral costs. The bill would define 'angel family' as the immediate family of a homicide victim. That applies when the killer was unlawfully present or a member of an international drug cartel.
Office for victims of immigration crime
If enacted, the bill would create a Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement Office in the Department of Homeland Security. It would help victims of crimes by inadmissible, deportable, or unlawfully present noncitizens and their families. The Director would run a hotline, give referrals, help register for custody-status alerts, and share releasable criminal or immigration history. VOICE must study proactive services and report to Congress within one year and every year after.
