Build modular facilities to rear and release sterile New World screwworm flies to block invasive screwworm migrations that threaten U.S. livestock. The bill would require the Secretary of Agriculture to begin construction within 180 days and to operate facilities able to rear and disperse sterile flies to areas at risk.

New screwworm protection for farmers
If enacted, USDA would begin building one or more modular New World screwworm fly rearing facilities within 180 days. The facilities would rear sterile screwworm flies and disperse them to areas at risk of infestation. The Secretary would report to the House and Senate Agriculture Committees within one year and annually after that about the threat and USDA actions. The bill would authorize $300 million for these activities, and the money would remain available until spent.
