Electronic drug labels with paper option
If enacted, this bill would let manufacturers provide required drug prescribing information only by electronic means for many drugs. It would still require manufacturers to let doctors and pharmacies keep getting paper copies or ask for paper when needed. After a paper request, the manufacturer would have to give the paper copy promptly and free. The rule would cover biological products. The Secretary of Health and Human Services would have to issue final rules within 1 year and hold a public workshop within 2 years. The change would apply to drugs introduced or delivered for introduction into interstate commerce on or after the sooner of two years after enactment or when the final rules take effect.
