Sponsored By: Senator Merkley, Jeff [D-OR]
Introduced
Summary
Prohibits M-44 cyanide devices because they are highly toxic and indiscriminate. Canyon's Law would ban M-44 devices that deploy sodium cyanide, noting Environmental Protection Agency classification as a Category One acute toxicant and documented harms including a 2017 child exposure, at least 42 accidental human exposures since 1984, more than 50 family dogs killed since 1990, thousands of non-target wildlife deaths, continued harm to endangered species, and only about 53 percent effectiveness at hitting targets.
