Summary
Streamlined environmental review for certain HUD-assisted projects would be created and federally recognized Indian Tribes would be added alongside states and local governments for that review pathway. This bill would let the HUD Secretary treat some HUD-administered assistance as funds for a "special project" under the Multifamily Housing Property Disposition Reform Act for purposes of the National Environmental Policy Act review process.

Easier environmental review for HUD and Tribes
If enacted, the bill would let the HUD Secretary treat some HUD housing aid as a "special project" for environmental review under NEPA. This would allow HUD to use a streamlined NEPA review for those projects when no other law already sets the NEPA steps. The bill would also add federally recognized Indian Tribes alongside States and local governments for that rule. The change would take effect upon enactment.
