Ban on Guns Near Federal Election Sites

If enacted, the bill would define a "Federal election site" as a building or part of a building used to run a federal polling place or to process or count ballots. It would make it unlawful for a person who knows or reasonably believes a place is a Federal election site to knowingly have a firearm in or within 100 yards of an entrance. Exceptions would allow on-duty authorized law enforcement and private security, a firearm kept inside a vehicle within 100 yards if it is not removed or brandished, and otherwise lawful possession at a nearby residence, business, or private property. A violation or attempt would carry a fine, up to 1 year in prison, or both. Possession with intent that the firearm be used in a crime would carry a fine, up to 5 years in prison, or both. Killings, attempts, or conspiracies during such violations or attacks involving a firearm would be prosecuted under existing federal murder and manslaughter laws.
