Members of Congress Lose Pension After Conviction
This bill would let the government take away a federal pension (annuity) earned from service as a Member of Congress if that person is convicted of certain sexual or trafficking crimes. The listed crimes include federal sexual abuse (chapter 109A), sexual exploitation and abuse of children (chapter 110), obscene visual depictions of child sexual abuse (section 1466A), and trafficking offenses (chapter 117 and sections 1590 or 1591), and similar State or Tribal crimes. It would apply to Members of the Senate or House, Delegates to the House, and the Resident Commissioner from Puerto Rico. The pension-forfeiture rule would apply only to acts or omissions that occur after the date this bill is enacted and would affect annuities under CSRS and FERS tied to congressional service.
