Sponsored By: Senator Coons, Christopher A. [D-DE]
Introduced
Summary
Stops a specific deduction from being taken out of railroad retirement annuities. The Railroad Retirement Fairness Act of 2026 would strike subdivision (6) from Section 2(f) of the Railroad Retirement Act of 1974, removing the authority to apply those deductions so they could no longer be taken from annuity payments.

Higher Railroad Retirement annuities
If enacted, this bill would end a rule that lets the Railroad Retirement Board take certain deductions from annuity checks. If you receive a Railroad Retirement annuity, you would likely get higher net payments because those deductions would no longer apply. The bill does not say which deductions, how much each person would get, or when the change would start.
