Defense review to identify Chinese military firms

If enacted, the Secretary of Defense would review each entity named in section 2(b) during the yearly review under the 2021 defense law. The Secretary would decide whether to identify any as a Chinese military company operating in the United States. That identification could trigger the legal consequences and restrictions tied to the defense-law process.

National-security review for certain Chinese gear

If enacted, communications equipment or services made or provided by the named Chinese companies and their affiliates would be subject to a national-security review. An appropriate national security agency would have one year from enactment to decide if the items pose an unacceptable risk. If the agency did not decide within a year, the FCC would add all listed items to its covered list within 30 days. If an agency finds an unacceptable risk, the FCC would add those specific items to the covered list within 30 days and the agency would send a report to the listed congressional committees. Determinations would be submitted in unclassified form, with a classified annex allowed.
