Limits on Iranian influence in Latin America
If enacted, the Secretary of State would have 180 days to submit a strategy to the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate and the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives. The strategy would be unclassified and could include a classified annex. It would require steps to limit Iranian cultural centers, including diplomatic efforts, sanctions on affiliates, and public diplomacy to expose activities. It would require options to deny visas, impose sanctions, or restrict travel by Iranian emissaries and other agents. The plan would also ask for stronger U.S. intelligence cooperation with Latin American partners, a framework to disrupt HispanTV and Al Mayadeen Español, and a plan to address Al Mustafa International University including possible terrorist designations.
