More beach water testing and alerts
This bill would provide $30 million a year from 2025 through 2029 for EPA grants to support coastal water testing and notifications. It would expand monitoring to include nearby shallow upstream waters and waters present on beaches. States and local governments could use grant money to identify pollution sources and put that data in reports. The EPA would be required to update guidance so it reflects new testing technologies. If enacted, coastal communities and beachgoers could get broader and faster water-quality information.
