More mosquito control grants and training
If enacted, the bill would reauthorize mosquito abatement grant funding at $100,000,000 for each fiscal year 2027 through 2031. The Secretary would be able to use those amounts to provide training and technical help for planning, assessments, and control programs, directly or by grants and contracts. Grant recipients would be allowed to use up to 5 percent of each award for continuing education and training for staff, including public health entomologists. The Secretary would also be able to consider innovative and novel mosquito prevention and control technologies when awarding grants.
National stockpile for vector control
If enacted, the bill would let HHS, through the CDC Director and the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, prepare the Strategic National Stockpile to hold an emergency supply of nonperishable vector-borne disease control products. The Secretary would be required to include an emergency stockpiling strategy for these products in the national vector-borne disease strategy and to plan how to work with manufacturers for timely purchase of control products.
