Bus operator barriers on large buses
If enacted, this bill would require floor-to-ceiling barriers around the operator workstation on certain new fixed-route buses. The rule would begin two years after enactment. It would apply to new buses 30 feet or longer with a useful life of 10 years or more bought with Federal funds, except funds from section 5311. The barrier would fully enclose the operator area and block people, fluids, and objects, while not blocking the operator's view. A transit recipient could avoid the barrier for a specific new bus if the labor organization representing the plurality of frontline workers agrees to waive the requirement for that bus.
