Federal land transfer to La Paz County
If enacted, the bill would direct the Secretary of the Interior to convey about 3,400 acres of federal land to La Paz County, Arizona. The land is shown on a map dated June 29, 2023, and the conveyance would occur as soon as the county requests it. La Paz County would pay the appraised fair market value and all costs related to the conveyance, including surveys, appraisals, and administrative fees. The Secretary must exclude parcels with significant cultural, environmental, wildlife, or recreation resources and may make minor boundary corrections by agreement. The county and any future owner would need to try to avoid disturbing tribal artifacts, coordinate with the Colorado River Indian Tribes' Tribal Historic Preservation Office, and allow tribal representatives to rebury unearthed artifacts. The conveyed land would be withdrawn from the mining and mineral leasing laws, and any proceeds from a sale would go into the Federal Land Disposal Account under the Federal Land Transaction Facilitation Act.
