Sponsored By: Senator Ron Johnson
Passed Senate
Summary
Designates July 2025 as National Sarcoma Awareness Month to raise public awareness and encourage timely diagnosis and treatment. Sarcoma is a rare cancer of the bones and connective tissues that can arise nearly anywhere in the body. About 17,000 people in the United States are diagnosed each year, about 7,600 die annually, and roughly 50,000 live with sarcoma at any given time. It makes up about 1 percent of adult cancers and about 15 percent of childhood cancers. More than 70 subtypes exist, causes are not well understood, and the disease is often misdiagnosed. Treatment can include surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy.
