World Oceans Day would be recognized on June 8, 2026 and the resolution would celebrate U.S. maritime heritage and ocean leadership. It would note the ocean's role in the nation's history, security, economy, and identity, honor fishermen, mariners, members of the Armed Forces, scientists, explorers, shipbuilders, port workers, indigenous and coastal communities, mark the United States' 250th anniversary and recognize the 50th anniversary of the Magnuson‑Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act plus the 20th anniversary of the Marine Debris Program and bipartisan Save Our Seas Act leadership, and reaffirm a commitment to maritime leadership, ocean exploration, scientific discovery, economic opportunity, and responsible stewardship of ocean resources for future generations.
