A resolution recognizing and honoring Cambodian veterans of the Khmer National Armed Forces for their sacrifices, their support of the Armed Forces of the United States, and their defense of freedom in Southeast Asia.
Sponsored By: Senator Schiff, Adam B. [D-CA]
Introduced
Summary
Recognize and honor Cambodian veterans of the Khmer National Armed Forces (FANK) for their sacrifices and partnership with U.S. forces. This bill would acknowledge the FANK's role fighting communism in the early 1970s, including capturing and destroying enemy supplies, providing intelligence on enemy troop positions that aided U.S. operations, and helping evacuate U.S. Embassy personnel from Phnom Penh on April 12, 1975. It would note that an estimated 1.5–3.0 million Cambodians died under the Khmer Rouge, that FANK members were targeted during the genocide, and that many survivors resettled in the United States and contributed to their communities.
