FAA Orders Hose Replacements for Piaggio Airplanes by February

Published Date: 1/12/2026

Rule

Summary

If you own or operate a Baykar Piaggio P-180 airplane, listen up! The FAA found leaks in some flexible hydraulic hoses and now requires you to replace them by February 17, 2026. Plus, you can’t install those old hoses anymore—keeping your plane safe and sound without breaking the bank.

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.

Mandatory hose replacement on P-180s

If you own or operate a Baykar Piaggio P-180 with manufacturer serial numbers 1002, 1004 through 1234, or 3001 through 3018 and have flexible hydraulic hoses P/N AS117-04-0205, 98E0520FAMA000W, MS8006G207AL, or 99G0530FDFD000W installed, you must replace those hoses within 660 hours time-in-service after February 17, 2026, following Piaggio Aerospace Service Bulletin 80-0497, Revision 0, dated March 5, 2025.

Estimated compliance cost per airplane

The FAA estimates this AD affects 107 U.S.-registered P-180 airplanes. The estimated cost to replace the hoses is 22 work-hours × $85 per hour = $1,870 labor plus $1,241 parts, for a total of $3,111 per airplane and $332,877 on U.S. operators.

Safety risk prevented: hydraulic leak or fire

The AD responds to reported leakage where electrical arcing punctured flexible hydraulic hoses; if not fixed, leaks could lead to loss of the hydraulic system or fire in the hydraulic pump package (HPP) area. The replacement and installation prohibition aim to prevent that unsafe condition.

Prohibition on reinstalling old hoses

After February 17, 2026, you may not install flexible hydraulic hoses with P/N AS117-04-0205, 98E0520FAMA000W, MS8006G207AL, or 99G0530FDFD000W on any airplane. The rule therefore requires use of replacement hoses that include a non-metallic, non-conductive abrasion sleeve as specified in Piaggio SB 80-0497.
