Medicare coverage for early dementia tests
If enacted, Medicare would cover certain early Alzheimer's and dementia screening tests starting on or after January 1, 2028. Tests would qualify only if cleared under FDA 510(k), classified under 513(f)(2), or approved under 515. Covered tests would include genomic sequencing blood or blood-product tests and other equivalent tests based on blood, tissue, urine, or other biospecimens. The bill would add these tests to Medicare payment rules, which could lower out-of-pocket costs for beneficiaries who receive them.
