Purpose

Ark. Code Ann. § 13-3-201

(1) The Black History Commission of Arkansas is created and established at the seat of government of this state for the purpose of:(1) Advising the Secretary of the Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism with respect to gathering, developing, and keeping the history of a segment of Arkansas society whose history has been overlooked and forgotten and has been simply neglected because of a lack of concern;(2) Collecting materials bearing on the history of black Arkansans from the earliest times;(3) Encouraging historical work and research in the background of black Arkansans to help the young citizens of the state appreciate their heritage; and(4) Performing work in relation to the history of black Arkansans.

(1) Advising the Secretary of the Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism with respect to gathering, developing, and keeping the history of a segment of Arkansas society whose history has been overlooked and forgotten and has been simply neglected because of a lack of concern;

(2) Collecting materials bearing on the history of black Arkansans from the earliest times;

(3) Encouraging historical work and research in the background of black Arkansans to help the young citizens of the state appreciate their heritage; and

(4) Performing work in relation to the history of black Arkansans.
