ANNOTATION
Formerly, when governor resigned, senate president pro tempore performed lieutenant governor's duties. When governor resigns, the lieutenant governor becomes governor, but the president pro tempore of the senate does not become lieutenant governor de jure; he is only entitled to perform the duties and receive the emoluments of lieutenant governor only so long as he is president pro tempore.
