(a) Absent the exercise of other applicable provisions of this Act, the period of emergency treatment/observation may last no more than seventy- two (72) hours after the initial examination, not including Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. (b) Anyone who is determined by the examining or a treating physician not to be a danger to himself, herself, or others, or gravely disabled, must be released from emergency treatment/observation.
